STAGE Presence Dance and Performing Arts Studio is a fun and friendly yet professional performing arts school on Hull Road, Mooroolbark.
Stage Presence offers classes for students of all levels, aged two years to adults, in classical ballet, jazz, tap, funk, hip hop contemporary, singing, drama, acrobatics and special boys-only classes.
Director and teacher Amy Sloan said that the goal of the school is to offer a friendly, relaxed and exciting environment to nurture young dancers into confident children and adults who will benefit from the physical advantages of dance such as posture, fitness and confidence.
“We also offer students the opportunity to take examinations and train as teachers in internationally recognised examination streams, the Cecchetti Ballet Australia and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing,” she said.
“Students’ achievements and teachers’ qualifications at both of these streams are recognised around the world and it is great for parents to know that while their children are having a great time, they are learning something that could lead them to professional dance or teaching if they so choose in the future.”
Stage Presence has two dance studios fully equipped with sprung floors and mounted ballet barres, a third multi-purpose room for singing and drama and a huge foyer for parents.
Previously known as Miranda Kalgovas Ballet School, Stage Presence has been operating in Mooroolbark for 35 years.
“We now have 11 highly experienced teachers with the original owner still on staff,” said Amy.
“Of these 11, we have four qualified Cecchetti teachers, Miranda Kalgovas, Bronwyn Corbett, Claire Falla and Bridgette Rankin and two qualified ISTD teachers, Louise Outram and myself.
“Our drama teacher Josh Mitchell has a Bachelor of Education in Drama, and our singing teacher Merelyn Carter, boys’ teacher Tim McDowell and master class teacher Jillian Fitzgerald are all highly sought after performers and choreographers.”
The school has a long history of high examination results and many past students are now with companies and tertiary institutions such as The Australian Ballet and the Victorian College of the Arts.
“We hope every student will enjoy dance throughout their life,” said Amy.
Classes run after school and on Saturdays, with some weekday daytime classes.
