WATER gushed along York Road near Mount Evelyn recently after a water main burst.
It was reported shortly after 8.07am on Saturday 17 July – but Yarra Valley Water didn’t arrive until 10am.
However, a water utility assessor was on site at 8.32am and the main was switched off until repairs could be undertaken.
YVW infrastructure services general manager David Snadden said the three metre deep water main had been badly damaged and crews had to excavate the area to repair the pipe.
It took more than seven hours to repair, but nearby residents were provided with a temporary water supply from a nearby hydrant.
YVW was unable to say how much water was lost from the burst main. Anyone who spots a leak, burst main or knocked hydrant, is urged to contact the water utility on 13 27 62.
