Information evening offers guidelines for parents

IT’S often lamented that there is no guide book for the responsibility of parenthood, but an upcoming information session at Knox Civic Centre just might be the next best thing.
Parenting with Confidence is a seminar aimed at giving parents access to expert advice about how to create an enjoyable family life.
The session will be hosted by the council’s Family and Children’s Services department and will feature guest speaker Warren Cann, executive director of the Parenting Research Centre.
Knox mayor Jim Penna said Mr Cann’s qualifications included a masters degree in clinical psychology and the experience of raising three young boys of his own.
“Who better to talk about encouraging confidence in parents?” Cr Penna said.
“Warren will discuss how parents can increase their parenting knowledge and skills to encourage happier, more creative and more relaxed children and promote a more enjoyable family life.”
Mr Cann will also be available to answer questions at the end of the session.
Parenting with Confidence will be held on Wednesday, 29 August from 8-9.30pm in room four at Knox Civic Centre.
The session costs $10 per person or $5 for pension or concession card holders.
All participants must register before the event by calling 9298 8337 or visiting www.knox.vic.gov.au.
