Pet microchip prices clipped

HILLS pet owners can get their dog or cat microchipped at bargain prices at the 2007 Cardinia Shire Council Pet Expo in March.
The council’s local laws team is inviting all pet owners who haven’t microchipped their animals to bring them along to the expo in Pakenham.
Local laws manager Alan Giachin said the expo is an excellent opportunity for pet owners to have their animals’ microchipped at a fraction of the standard price.
“Microchipping is a simple and effective way to link a pet to its home and owner,” he said.
“Even responsible pet owners sometimes find their pets can, unfortunately, get lost or stolen or simply stray from home.
He said there is an alarming amount of lost pets that can’t be returned home because their owners can’t be found.
“Often lost animals are not wearing collars or registration tags which makes it impossible to identify them.
“Microchipping lasts for the lifetime of the animal and ensures a speedy return to its owner,” Mr Giachin said.
At the pet expo animals can be microchipped for $20, which is half the usual price.
The pet expo will be held at Cardinia Shire Offices in Henty Way, Pakenham, from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, 17 March.
