Bombers take on Beaconsfield

EMERALD Cricket Club’s A Grade hosted top team Beaconsfield for their last game of the year.
The Bombers bowled on a quick Avonsleigh ground. Clinton Marsh and Quenten Lucas got the Bombers off to a great start with three wickets in the first eight overs.
Then the Bombers had to toil harder as the score drifted to 5/163 with Marsh and Lucas striking again. Rod Smith got some reward for his good bowling when he got two quick wickets as the Bombers’ persistence and pressure in the field paid off with Beacy falling to 9/183.
The last wicket was finally got with the score on 206 with the Bombers in a good position next week. For the Bombers the captain Lucas was outstanding. He sent down 25.1 overs to return another bag of wickets claiming 6/54.
His new ball partner Marsh was also in fine form with 2/17 off his 12 overs and Rod Smith bowled a marathon 19 overs to return the figures of 2/62.
B Grade: The B graders had a day they would rather forget with Beaconsfield already getting first innings points and having the Bombers on toast in the second dig. Batting first the Bombers never looked in it as they were bowled out for 46 in only the 24th over.
In Beaconsfield’s innings, the Bombers did well to contain them to 5/125 off 30 overs. Jarred Gillespie bowled well to get two wickets as did Cam Williams.
In Emerald’s second innings they were in trouble again with the score on 5/24 at stumps.
D Grade: Playing at Beaconsfield the Bombers needed to win to keep their finals chances alive. Batting first the Bombers lost an early wicket then Chris Alenson and Julian Powell consolidated putting on a 60-run stand.
The pair looked at ease until Alenson was out for 35 in the 25th over. The score was on 3/72 when Lucas MsGann joined Powell and the pair batted either side of tea and looked comfortable until Powell fell for a fantastic 45 with the score on 114.
From there the Bombers fell in a hole with McGann being dismissed for 27 and a good 26 by Lee Ligtermoet the only starts as they were bowled out for 169 in the 56th over.
With 11 overs to bowl the Bombers did well to get Beacy 2/25. Andrew Rolfs bowled a great spell to take the two wickets.
E Grade: Emerald played at home against Merinda Park. Bowling first the Bombers got off to a good start with the score on 3/33. The score then moved along to 3/105 but from there Emerald got steady wickets to bowl them out for 160.
For the Bombers Michael Pepi bowled well early to get 2/20 off 8 overs. Colin McNeil with 2/17 off 6 and Aaron Cameron 2/19 off 4 also bowled well.
Eric Glazner, Jesse Mather, and Brett Hamilton got one wicket each. Emerald had 12 overs to bat and were 2/67 at stumps. Jesse Mather was 26 not out and Kade Ely made 18.
Under 16 Black: Emerald played Pakenham away and fielded first. The young Bombers performed well in the field and got constant wickets throughout the innings to bowl them out for 121 in the 28th over.
Euan Thoms got 3/27 off 8 overs and Dan Leversha and Rob Wynne each got one wicket. Emerald had 10 overs to bat and were 2/21.
Under 14 Black: Emerald played Upper Beaconsfield and bowled first and did well getting them out for 42. Callum Thoms was great with 4/20, Tom Baldock 3/15 and Tye Johnstone 2/4 also bowling very well.
In reply the Bombers were 3/111. Andrew Alenson, Jack Jeffree and Baldock all batted well.
