Tribute for Jones

By Ed Merrison
Crowds gathered at Ruby’s Lounge on a sunny Labor Day afternoon to honour Mr Jones, who was fatally stabbed near Box Hill train station on Thursday, 23 February.
The concert featured 10 bands. Proceeds will go to Mr Jones’s partner, Kate Salisbury, and their son, Jett, who will be two years old in May.
Close family friend and tribute co-organiser Emily Hehir said it was a huge success to fill the venue to capacity.
“The plan is to raise enough to get (Ms Salisbury) a good house deposit,” she said.
Ms Hehir thanked the management of Ruby’s for hosting the event, as well as Earthly Pleasures cafe for catering, butcher Bill’s of Belgrave for providing meat for the sausage sizzle, and Ferntree Print for help with posters and CD covers.
“Absolutely everyone was helping out and that’s what made it work so well,” she said.
Mr Jones’s band, The Love Jones, recorded two of his songs, She, and Shadows, with vocals by Hills musician Heath King, which will be sold in shops soon.
People wishing to make a donation to the Jones family can do so by visiting www.love-jones.net, or by depositing money at the Bendigo Bank in the name of E.A. Hehir, ‘In trust for Jett Jones’, BSB: 633-000, account number: 127 245 900.
Money orders in the name Emily Hehir can be sent to 44 Morris Road, Upwey, Victoria 3158. For CD sales, contact Ms Hehir on 0425 723 636.
