Yeats clinches Winter Cup

By Dennis Fuller
THE course at Emerald Golf Club looked a treat last Saturday for the last day of the three-day Sam Ritchie Winter Cup event.
Conditions suited some players, with the course rating set at 67, and by play’s end Martin Yeats (8) stood tall to show that he is on the edge of destroying his handicap by carding 39 points for a grand total of 112.
Right behind him came the fast-finishing Greg Horrocks (12), whose 41 points gave his total a boost to 109.
Next came Kennith Hill and Peter Stevens on 108 and the leader after two rounds, Leigh Morison, next with 107.
These scores set Horrocks as the winner over-all for the day’s comp and in A Grade. Hill took out the B Grade event with 40 points while C Grade again struggled to find a high scorer with Brian McCoy tops on 31 points.
Nearest the pins were won by Horrocks on the 2nd, Enzo Bean the 12th, Rod Ward the 13th, while Yeats rounded out a good day by taking the pro pin on the 18th.
The Wednesday event was won Ben Balfour with 40 points and was followed home by Geoff Isherwood 39 and Justin Fuller 38.
Balfour and Fuller drew for the putting gong with 30 each. The deciding putt-out will occur next week on the course or will be done by computer reality hook-up.
Next Saturday, eager floggers will front up for the chance to take out the August Monthly Medal in a stroke event.
