Help for Sarah

By Tania Martin
KNOX Tavern is holding a fundraising dinner in July to help raise money for former employee Sarah Hartigan who was suddenly struck down with multiple sclerosis last year.
The dinner is on Thursday, 13 July at 7pm and aims to raise money to assist Sarah, 27, and her family with medical costs and other living expenses.
Sarah was employed at Knox Tavern for the past four years but in October last year she suddenly fell seriously ill and was taken to hospital.
Sarah’s mother, Maria Hartigan, said she took Sarah to the hospital because she said she was suffering difficulties with memory loss.
Mrs Hartigan said within three days of Sarah being admitted to hospital she was unable to move her arms or to speak and had difficulty swallowing.
MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system and can, to varying degrees, interfere with the transmission of nerve impulses throughout the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.
Mrs Hartigan said after talking to a neurologist, the family was told that Sarah had one of the severe cases of MS.
Mrs Hartigan said: “It’s just such a shock when this devastating illness can hit a normal healthy person in the blink of an eye.”
Mrs Hartigan said the money raised from the dinner would go towards a hoist in and out of the family car and a $6000 wheelchair.
Tickets for the dinner are now available and cost $45 per person for a three-course dinner, beer, wine and soft drinks included.
To make a booking call David Cruse on 9800 3011.
