Sloan stands supreme

By Dennis Fuller
WHAT a day for a round of golf at the Emerald Golf Club, where all things are bursting with enthusiasm since Graeme and Rose Warrick took up a long term lease on the course this week.
Graeme has been the cornerstone of Berwick-Montuna Golf Course for yonks and has taken on Emerald course and clubhouse to put energy and life into the place.
At the end of play and with the course rating set at 69, visitor, Peter Sumsion (25) from Ringwood, stood tall on 38 stableford points to take out the overall comp on a countback.
The C Grade prize was his as well.
Tony Sloan (6), doing an inspection tour from Drouin lost the overall on the countback but still won A Grade as a consolation.
B Grade was won by Dave Hunt (16), who has been peeling off solid rounds for a while. His 37 points were enough.
Others to hold their heads up were Dennis Fuller, Rick Arthurson, Peter Jones and Graeme Fergus all on 36 while Peter Stevens, Jeff Marsh and Ken Hill all managed 35.
Nearest the pins went to Barry Cook on the 12th, Ross Martin the 13th, Peter Clowes the 17th and Sloan rounded out his good day with the pro pin on the 18th.
The Wednesday event was won by Kevin Miller (38) with a net 64 from Ben Balfour (19) on 67.
Mick Petrie won the putting comp in a putt-off from Andy Smith who lowered his colours for the first time for weeks.
Next Saturday, a par competition will be contested.
