PRE-SCHOOL children in Belgrave received some early fire training when the local CFA paid them a visit last week.
Belgrave CFA visited Belgrave Pre-School on Thursday, 17 November to teach children basic fire awareness and have a bit of fun while they were at it.
The visit was part of the CFA’s Brigades in Schools initiative.
Firefighters talked to the children about good fires and bad fires before teaching them to stop, drop and roll.
The kids also had a chance to get down low and go, go, go, before clambering on the CFA truck and having a blast on the hose.
Pre-school teacher Marian Prince organised the visit and said the campaign had been running successfully for four or five years.
“It gives (the children) initial teaching of what to do if there is a fire and about safe behaviour around fires.
“They need to know what to do if a fire alarm goes off,” she said.
She said far from making the children worry about the danger of fire, it is conducted in a relaxed and informative fashion.
“While the kids are calm, they can take in information more easily,” Ms Prince said.
