BELGRAVE Country Women’s Association (CWA) celebrated its 70th birthday with plenty of yarns and a good old-fashioned tea party.
More than 60 women celebrated the milestone with some great company, and some even better tea and scones.
The Belgrave CWA branch started in 1937 when a group of Belgrave women decided to follow in the footsteps of a bordering town.
Member Rita Hodgson said the launch of the Belgrave branch was spurred on by the success of the Kallista CWA.
“But we have lasted longer than they did,” Ms Hodgson said.
Ms Hodgson said the Kallista branch closed in the early 1960s because of a lack of members.
“I think it’s fantastic that we have made it to 70,” she said.
Ms Hodgson said although she had only been a member of the Belgrave CWA since 1993, it had still be a wonderful experience.
“My time here has been full of warmth and wonderful companionship, with new friends and support,” she said.
