Training set for the stage

THE Hillside Academy of Dance is gearing up for its 12th year of fun-filled dance classes with a special performing arts workshop for anyone to attend, scheduled at the end of term one.
Workshop classes include vocal and singing, drama and acting, stage make-up, jazz, hip hop and funk, acrobatics, contemporary, tap and classical ballet.
Workshops for both juniors (primary school age) and seniors (secondary school age and above) are run on Sunday with two classes in the morning, lunch break, then two classes in the afternoon.
Hillside’s normal weekly classes commence on Saturday 2 February and run during the week and Saturdays from two locations in Belgrave South.
With classical ballet, jazz, tap, strength as well as contemporary, singing and vocal coaching, funk and hip hop, acrobatics, exams, and competitions there is something for everyone to enjoy from pre-schoolers to advanced dancers.
Hillside caters for students who wish to be more involved in the dancing world, offering examinations in Cecchetti international classical ballet and Southern Federation of Dance jazz and tap, as well as opportunities to compete in competitions and gain audition experience throughout the year.
The academy also offers great fun general classes for those who love to dance but do not wish to compete or take exams.
Of course the end of year performance in December is a fun time for all to show what they have accomplished throughout the year.
In full costume and make-up everyone shines on the day.
It also allows all students to mix, old and young alike, which is great for friendships and gaining self confidence – as the picture shows of a tiny student and a senior student together.
Enrolments are now being taken for 2008 classes.
