THE casting call for Olinda Primary School’s original production of The Song of the Zubblewump was short and sweet.
Short, because the school has only nine students from prep to grade six, and sweet, because the school’s enthusiastic bunch of performers are renowned for throwing their heart and soul into everything they do.
The tight-knit school community has pooled its creative resources to bring to life a script written by one of the school’s current parents Heather Herbert.
The students have been preparing for the production – under the guidance of teacher and producer Heather Grunwald – since the start of the term, while parents have been busily making costumes for the young stars.
Principal Richard Cutler said providing the students with opportunities in drama would help to develop their confidence in front of other people.
“The students are very excited because all of them have a speaking part and they are well prepared for the event,” he said.
The performances will be held in the school’s performing arts space on Tuesday, 28 August (10am) and Wednesday, 29 August (6.30pm).
Supporting entertainment will include musical items from the students and magic tricks from the principal.
All are welcome to attend.
