Care taken with classics

A LOVE of motorcycles and motorcycle road racing led to the establishment of a unique business in Ferntree Gully when motor cycle enthusiast Clive Carter turned a hobby into his livelihood.
In 1976, Clive opened Clive Carter Motor Cycles to cater for repairs from the classic to the modern in motor cycles as well as restoration work.
Full workshop facilities enable service and tuning, major and minor engine repairs and roadworthy certificates to be carried out by the experienced team.
Customers can leave their machines at Clive Carter’s secure in the knowledge that whatever there is to know about motor cycles, the mechanics are at the forefront of their trade.
Riding attire including helmets, gloves, boots, goggles and body armour are available in the showroom area as well as essentials such as batteries, plugs, oil, filters, chains and a lot more.
Clive’s involvement in the world of motor cycles extends much further than just running the business.
In January 1976, Clive Carter won the 350 Victorian Championship in road racing at Phillip Island on a Yamaha TZ 350 and held the lap record. He also broke the 500cc lap record at the same meeting.
In 2006 Clive raced Post Classic Sidecars with great success in the Phillip Island Classic on a Honda 800 and as recently as January this year, he rode a Kawasaki Z1000 at the Phillip Island Classic achieving a third place.
Clive retired to focus on helping and promoting his two sons, Danny and Terry Carter. Following in their father’s footsteps, both Danny and Terry have held lap records and Victorian titles.
Clive Carter Motor Cycles is at 1033 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully, and is open for business from 8.30am-6pm from Monday to Friday, and 8.30am-1pm on Saturday.
