Emerald enters grand final

By Bill Kuys
EMERALD started its Under 18 the game strong controlling it from the very first bounce and some accurate passing and conversions gave the boys a very handy two goals lead against South Belgrave at the first break.
The second quarter saw Emerald continue where they left off in the first quarter and kicked the ball long taking advantage of the breeze, converting 5 goals and keeping South Belgrave goalless.
The third quarter was a tough struggle with Emerald having plenty of the play but the breeze was playing havoc and made scoring more difficult. South were determined to come back and tried hard but the Emerald boys had answers for everything they tried.
The last quarter again saw Emerald dominate the match and easily accounted for South Belgrave.
This week Emerald plays Yarra Junction in the grand final at Healesville.

THE Emerald girls played Thornton-Eildon in the preliminary final at the Mooroolbark netball courts.
The game was fast and furious from the very first whistle, however the Emerald girls managed to turn the ball over frequently and outscored Thornton-Eildon in the first quarter.
The Emerald girls continued with their strategy and again were able to steal the ball on a number of occasions and converted these to goals giving them a handy lead at half time.
Emerald took control of the game after half time, with quick accurate passes, which converted into goals, going into the third break, 10 goals up.
Emerald’s fast movement of the ball continued in the last quarter causing Thornton-Eildon trouble and run out comfortable victors by 17 goals.
Emerald will now play Alexandra next week in the grand final at Healesville with the ledger being one all in the home and away series.
Congratulations to Meagan Baguley for taking out the Division 2A League Goal Shooting for the season with 305 goals.
