HILLS actors will have to think fast on their feet with the introduction of a new improvisation group – Gempro.
Gempro is the newest group to come out of Gemco Players and is already being likened to television shows such as Thank God You’re Here.
The idea for an improvisation group was suggested after former Melbourne Impro member Kylie Storer joined Gemco Players.
After joining the group Ms Storer started holding workshops on improvisation to gauge interest.
“There are some young, enthusiastic and talented people here and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to start an improvisation group,” she said.
Gempro was created in January and the group now meets once a week on Monday nights.
The group will also perform a Friday Freefall which will be held on the last Friday of every month.
In the Freefall two teams will be pitted against one another in a series of audience challenges.
The teams will not know what they will have to do and it will be up to the audience to choose the locations and scenarios for the actors to perform. The next Freefall will be held on Friday night at the Gemco Players Hall in Kilvington Drive and cost $12 for adults and $10 for concession cardholders.
Gempro will also put on an improvisation show called The Long and Short of it next month.
Ms Price says the performances will be completely improvised 20-minute plays.
The Long and Short of it will start on Thursday, 17 May and run until Saturday, 26 May at the Gemco Players Hall.
