Gardening among initiatives

MONTROSE Gardeners is a joint initiative of Japara Neighbourhood House and Montrose Library which aims to bring together people to share tips and experiences of gardening.
Each month guest speakers share their expertise in many different aspects of gardening.
There are also plans for a hands-on group working in the community.
Japara Neighbourhood House Montrose managing Montrose Public Hall and The Bridge Community Garden Centre Kilsyth offers a range of recreational and educational classes.
All venues can be hired for regular meetings or special events.
Japara offers classes in health and wellbeing, yoga, tai chi, gentle exercise, belly dancing and teenage health for girls.
Arts and crafts include decoupage, calligraphy, spinning a yarn, ribbon roses, soy candle making, making a lavender wheat bag and lip balm.
Music courses include singing, adult guitar, children’s guitar and adult music group.
Practical skills which can be learned include French polishing, floristry, food safety training, responsible service of alcohol and gambling.
Japara and The Bridge Community Garden Centre offer opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities or acquired brain injury to learn new skills and share creative experiences.
Children’s services offered are callisthenics, occasional childcare, family playgroup, grandparents’ playgroup and creative playgroup with Lynda.
