Concern at police station roof design

PROBLEMS with the roof line on the design for the new police station in Olinda was just one of the issues nearby residents hoped would be addressed at a meeting last night on the amended plans.
The move comes after the plans for the police station were unveiled earlier this month, and nearby traders and residents raised some concerns with the design.
Olinda Action Group’s vice-chairperson, Sue Tardif, said that although everyone has differing opinions on the design, there was a strong feeling that the roof line wasn’t aesthetically ‘right’.
Ms Tardif said nearby residents felt that the design wouldn’t fit in with the surrounding ‘village-style’ buildings.
Police and the architects gathered at Noel’s Pie Shop in Olinda last night to discuss altered plans for the station and to get further comments from the local community.
Yarra Ranges Streeton Ward councillor Noel Cliff said despite some issue with the roof, and the proposed brick work at the front of the building, everyone was pretty happy with the design.
Cr Cliff said following the community consultation over the plans, it will go towards council to make a decision on the planning application. But, he said with all the work the police and architects have done with the local community, there should be no problems getting it passed through the council.
“It’s now a case of when we can get going on the project,” he said.
