Grant’s modern look for school

THE Basin Primary School’s long-coveted classroom refurbishment became a reality last week as Monbulk MP James Merlino announced that the school would receive $400,000 as part of the State Government’s Better Schools Today program.
The welcome funding will provide for the reconfiguration of two separate blocks of classrooms into more modern and spacious learning areas.
Principal Graeme Russell said he was ‘thrilled’ to receive the long-awaited phone call from the State Government a fortnight ago.
He hailed the successful funding bid as a testament to the hard work of his predecessors, saying the new facilities would better accommodate group learning and interactive technology such as computers.
Mr Merlino said the announcement would transform the look and feel of the school.
“This will convert small classrooms which are up to a century old into modern, functional teaching environments,” he said.
The Basin Primary School is one of 16 Victorian schools to receive between $300,000 and $500,000 for modifications and upgrades under the Brumby Government program.
Among those is Monbulk Primary School, which last week received $500,000 for a classroom and toilet block upgrade.
