Guitar player is in the pink after win

By Tania Martin
STRUMMING her guitar and singing a Pink song has won Mt Evelyn teenager Sally Robbins a talent quest.
The Monbulk College student travelled 42 kilometres with her family to the Toolangi Tavern to compete in the competition, which started more than six weeks ago.
Sally, 14, was amazed that she made it through the first round and into the finals.
And she is still trying to come to terms with being crowned the winner of the competition.
“I couldn’t believe it, it was just amazing,” she said.
But music teacher Steve Haggar says Sally has a natural talent and that he was not surprised that she won.
Sally first heard about the talent quest from a close family friend and didn’t hesitate to enter.
She impressed the competition judges in both her heat and the final by singing The One That Got Away by Pink and Not Ready to Make Nice by The Dixie Chicks.
Sally not only spends hours practicing on her guitar and fine tuning her singing but she also plays in the school band.
She is the lead singer in the school band and unlike most teenagers her age, would prefer to play her guitar and sing than watch television.
Sally spends every spare moment strumming her guitar and singing country music tunes and is now well on the road to becoming a professional singer.
“Singing is all I think about – I just want to sing,” she said.
“I have loved singing ever since I was a kid with just a tape deck and a microphone.”
