A MONBULK woman last week voiced her gratitude after Monbulk Rose Farm donated 40 plants to her after vandals smashed her tree guards and stole a native mint plant.
Donna Grundy told the Mail in late January of her disgust over the damage to her tree guards on her front nature strip.
The Mail reported on Tuesday, 24 January in its page three story, ‘Resident angry over destruction’ that Ms Grundy was disheartened by the fact that someone would come along and cause such a wilful act of destruction.
Ms Grundy told the Mail that she could not understand why someone would destroy her garden like that in the run up to Christmas.
She said she had spent well over $1000 on plants to try and create a native garden for the local birds and wildlife and a place where her son, Jack, 2, could play.
Just three weeks after the story appearing in the paper, Ms Grundy is proud to report that local business Monbulk Roses has donated 40 plants.
Ms Grundy said that Ian and Linda Boden called her just days after reading the story in the Mail newspaper to offer her 40 plants to replace the damaged and stolen ones.
She said the Bodens were very generous and the plants were very much appreciated.
Mr Boden said he felt the need to donate the plants after his wife, Linda, mentioned she read in the Mail about the destruction of Donna’s garden.
“We own a block of land near Donna and after hearing what had happened I thought this is terrible and we need to do something to help,” he said.
