The Emerald Co-op Mitre 10 was established in 1945 and has been serving the community for 63 years.
In 1983, the co-operative joined the Mitre 10 group which has helped the business grow into what it is today.
General manager James McConnachie, who has been working in the business since 1981 has seen the turnover increase significantly.
The co-op’s shop manager Gregg Smith is also president of the Winterfest group. He is enthusiastic and dedicated to the customer, the co-op and the community.
As an agency for Bendigo Bank, the co-op has built up a very successful banking business over the past seven years with a significant increase in customers and now has real time banking on-line.
The co-op is the local Elgas LPG supplier delivering to many households and is also an agent for BOG gas supplies.
A large range of timber is stocked and DIY trade sales have increased dramatically in recent times.
“If it were not for the support of the shareholders and the community, the co-op would not be as strong as it is today,” said Mr McConnachie.
“The co-op also benefits the community as it is a large supporter of schools, churches and numerous sporting clubs.”
Members of the public can become a member of the co-op, which currently has in excess of 3000 members.
“Staff at the Mitre 10 store do their best to be “mighty helpful”, so whether you are after hardware, stock feed, briquettes, timber, paint or just to get a key cut call in and see us,” said Mr McConnachie.
The co-op has released a book titled The History of the Emerald and District Co-operative Society which is available for $9.95 in the store, or customers who spend $20 can ask for a free copy.
