MONBULK resident, Glen Binyon has reached out a helping hand to a school in Nepal to raise funds for the set up of a computer.
In November last year Glen went to Nepal for a holiday adventure, which included a trek to the Mount Everest base camp.
During his trek, Glen came across a small village called Pangbouche and a small school with just over 40 students.
Glen said the village was a fiveday walk from the nearest airstrip and that the school was in a desolate state.
He said the school was a glorified shed with the children sitting on long wooden planks for chairs and larger slabs of wood for tables.
Following his return to Australia, Glen was asked to organise fundraising to help the school obtain a computer for the school.
“For months I just thought about it, I didn’t know what to do as I had never done anything like this before,” Glen said.
Glen said he had already received some donations from local residents for the computer, but was now looking to raise money for a battery bank supply.
He said the town has no power supply, and that the nearest energy source was at a monastery, which was a twoday walk from the village.
Glen said the best option would be to raise enough money so that a power generator could be installed for the school.
He is now calling on the local community to help raise funds for Pangbouche.
Glen plans to write to local schools to help him with fund raising ideas for the project.
Anyone who wants to get behind Glen and his aim to help the Pangbouche school can contact him on 0400 937 186.
