IT’S time to start warming up those vocal chords again, as Ferntree Gully Idol is on again.
Aspiring idols will hit the main stage at the Friends of Ferntree Gully Community Fair on Saturday, 19 November.
The fair, now in its fourth year, welcomed crowds of about 1000 last year, but organisers are tipping this year’s to be the biggest and best ever.
Idol is just one of many highlights of the fair, which will boast more than 40 vendors and community group stalls.
The line-up features a range of entertainment from live music to line dancing, dog obedience demonstrations and performances from Wattleview, Ferntree Gully and Ferntree Gully North primary schools.
History buffs will be treated to vintage steam engines and local history displays, and Santa will drop by in a fire truck to spread some Christmas cheer.
Coonara Community Circus will dazzle crowds, including acrobatic displays, clowning, street theatre and balloon sculptures.
Fair coordinator and Knox City Council councillor Karin Orpen, who was moved to tears while judging last year’s Idol competition, is encouraging everyone to come along to an occasion she described as “unique”.
“Funds raised by participating community groups on the day will be pooled and proceeds from the fair raffle added and equally divided among all groups, small and large,” she said.
“(It’s) a wonderful example of true community spirit that not only raises funds but promotes the volunteers and the local community organisations they represent.”
The Friends of Ferntree Gully Community Fair will take place between 9am and 3pm on Saturday, 19 November in the railway car park on Alpine Street, Ferntree Gully.
