IL SHIM International Taekwon-Do is a family oriented martial arts club that offers something for everyone, whether it’s to keep fit, develop self-defence techniques or learn the art of taekwon-do.
Head instructor Paul Harper and junior school instructor Michelle Harper have been operating from the Upwey Community Hall for the past two years.
Paul is a 4th Dan Black Belt and has had 17 years of martial arts experience while Michelle also handles the club administration.
“We have a number of parents and children training together in the same class which is a great way to learn new skills and have fun as a family and we offer a family discount on our monthly fees to encourage family participation,” said Michelle.
“We train with the tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit in mind.
“Our instructors have recently returned from the ITF World Championships held in Quebec, Canada.
“They assisted with the coaching and management of the Australian team that won one gold medal, two silver medals and three bronze medals — the biggest haul of any Australian team in ITF taekwon-do history.”
Il Shim offers six free no-obligation lessons to help individuals and families decide if taekwon-do is what they want to do.
Contact the club on 0423 048 803 to book a place in the introductory class, as these run by appointment only.
Michelle said that visitors are welcome to come along to see classes in action prior to booking in for introductory classes.
