
WEARING a tiara and looking pretty in pink, former Belgrave resident Mavis Carter celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday 7 August.
Mrs Carter, now living in the Banksia Court Private Nursing Home in Croydon, celebrated the milestone with her six children, 18 grandchildren, 28 greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren.
Born in Ballarat in 1905, Mavis moved to Camperdown in 1928 after marrying her husband, Rob Carter.
Mr and Mrs Carter then moved to Colac where they lived for a number of years before moving to Melbourne, and eventually settling in Belgrave in 1963.
Following the death of her husband in 1970, Mrs Carter joined the Belgrave South Senior Citizens’ Club and was a member for more than 15 years.
She received congratulatory letters from the Queen, GovernorGeneral Michael Jeffery, Prime Minister John Howard, Premier Steve Bracks, and Victorian Governor John Landy.
