EMERALD Golf Club hosted its annual pro-am on the weekend. In his first performance at Emerald Victorian pro Jason Norris won with a five under 65.
Beautiful blue skies greeted the professionals and the course was in as good a condition as it has been for years.
Finishing behind Norris were a gaggle of player including David Diaz, David Tapping and Michael Faraone all on 67.
The morning A Grade competition for the amateurs was won by young Emerald Golf Club genius Edin Selimovic with 44 points. This was a four over par effort by the talented lad. The runner-up was Mango Maguire who finished with 42 points on the back of his 1 under round of 69.
K. Stockdale won B Grade with 41 points and L. Morison chased him home on 39.
The Social Club event was won by R. Cossins on 38 with I. Chew the runner up on 36. The non-handicap gong went to C. Whittleside with a nett 73 with R. Le Brett in second place. The ladies’ event was won by I. Gooi.
The afternoon A Grade competition went to Stuart Courtney on 33 points. Courtney won on a countback from Greg Davies on the same score.
B Grade was won by M. Bean with 40 points from Barry Cook on 32. The non-handicap event went to M. Kim 0n 73 with R. Stenton in second place.
The brace of nearest the pins were won by S. Soon on the fourth, N. Peasley the seventh, D. Trower the 12th, K. Anderson the 13th and J. Maple on the 18th. This result illustrated how considerate the local members were in that they did not finish with their names on these pins.
From the Balfouric file…
Ben’s group managed to be collectively one under par for one of the holes. Nothing surprising there one would think till it was explained that it was prop that had the bogey.
The club wishes to thank their major sponsors, Malaysian Airlines, Leaf Buster and Fujifilm for their generous support. All those who played owe a great debt of gratitude to captain Graeme Bates, manager uncle George Meier, the gorgeous Anty Bicky, their able sidekick Rod Shaw and their ever willing gophers, Les and Mai.
How these people could still smile at the end of the day I have no idea… but they did!
A special debt is owed to Barry Cook and Phil A’Avard, who have performed a miracle in turning the course into something special through their energy and expertise and long hours of work.
Next week is a raggedy old stroke event for members with nothing more riding on the result save bragging rights.
