FOR artist Marlene Frances painting is a way of communicating with people and she is now inviting people to share her passion for art at an upcoming exhibition in Ferntree Gully.
This veteran artist will open her exhibition titled Through My Eyes at the Hut Gallery on Sunday, 12 August at 2pm.
Frances is now putting the final touches on her work for the exhibition, which will feature an array of pastel and oil paintings from landscapes to still life and contemporary collages.
Frances’ passion for art is something that has stayed with her since childhood.
She has always used drawing and painting as a way of communicating with people.
Her journey to becoming a full-time artist began when she won recognition as a gifted artist in secondary school.
At the time Frances was awarded a scholarship to the Carnegie Institute in America and since then has trained with a number of well-known Australian artists.
She started working as a professional artist in 1974 and since then has taught art classes and made a living by selling paintings by commission and through exhibitions.
But Frances said it wasn’t until 2005 that she got the chance to fulfil her dream.
“I am now in a fortunate position of being able to develop as an artist on a full-time basis.”
Frances said a passion for colour and painting and the beauty of the world around her is what inspirers her artwork.
“I work mainly in soft pastels and oils creating landscapes and seascapes,” she said.
“But each painting has its own unique appeal which invites the viewer on a journey of discovery – it’s about sharing how I feel about what I see in a way that goes beyond words.”
Art enthusiasts interested in viewing Frances’ work should go to the exhibition opening at the Hut Gallery, 157 Underwood Road, Ferntree Gully.
The exhibition will also be open from 18 August to 2 September on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
