A DARING rescue carried out by the Dandenong Ranges’ iconic steam engine was the latest story launched last week by a Wantirnabased children’s author.
A crowd of people flocked to Puffing Billy’s Belgrave station for last week’s highprofile launch of Puffing Billy: A Winter Rescue, written by Gwen Ryder, and illustrated by Julie Mallegrom.
Tourism minister John Pandazopoulos was on hand to help launch the children’s picture book, emphasising the steam engine’s weight in the Victorian tourism industry.
“It is a pleasure to be launching this book, which is not only a great children’s story but a unique way to profile the Yarra Valley, Dandenongs and the Ranges.
“Puffing Billy has not only been a favourite attraction for Victorians over generations, it has been a major highlight for tourists to the region, highlighting the natural beauty and scenic landscapes of this wonderful region.”
Ms Ryder said the new story was a followup to her first, Puffing Billy: Back on the Rails, released in 1990.
The Wantirnabased author and Nunawadingbased illustrator Julie Mallegrom, collaborated on the new book after meeting in line dancing classes.
The 22page picture book is available from Puffing Billy stations for $11.95.
