COCKATOO Primary School students will make their stage debuts at the Junior Rock Eisteddfod Challenge (JREC).
The JREC is a unique opportunity for schools to take part in a dance, drama and design spectacular where the students are the stars of the show.
Although schools and students are drawn to the JREC for the excitement of the performances, it’s really about raising awareness of child obesity in Australia.
More than 15,000 students from more than 150 schools will compete in this year’s JREC.
Cockatoo teacher, Sam Ladner, said 90 students from grade two to six were taking part.
She said the students had shown a love for performing on stage and were all eager to entertain their audience.
Ms Ladner said the performance titled “Let Us Entertain You” was cut into four sections with the eightminute skit starting off in a video store.
The performance then has three scenes including under the sea, in the jungle and superheroes with each performance linking to different children’s movies.
The school performed at Melbourne’s Vodafone Arena last Friday night.
