SILVAN’S upcoming cricketers will get the chance to don new uniforms with the help of State Government cash.
Minister for Sport and Monbulk MP James Merlino last week announced cash injections for 16 Yarra Ranges sporting clubs.
Silvan Cricket Club will receive $1,000 for uniforms and footwear for the junior club.
Club president Jamie Cornfield said the funding was a fantastic boost for the juniors.
“This cash is much needed for a club this size and every little bit helps,” he said.
Mr Merlino said that grassroots sport was going from strength to strength in the Yarra Ranges but that many of the local clubs were lacking the resources and funding to properly equip their teams.
“New uniforms will play an important part in reinforcing the club’s identities and build morale and character among team mates,” he said.
Mr Merlino said the uniform grant not only encourages participation in sport but provides real benefits for disadvantaged clubs.
“One of the greatest feelings when playing for your local club is the moment when you pull on the team colours,” he said.
“We want to give clubs across Victoria the opportunity to feel that sense of pride and belonging.”
