KALLISTA Primary School has received a long-awaited State Government boost.
Monbulk MP James Merlino visited the school last month, 11 December, to announce it had been accepted into the building futures program.
“This is a great result and is the first step towards much needed capital improvements,” he said.
“Congratulations to the staff and the school council who have put in a phenomenal amount of work to show the school is ready to move into this next stage of regeneration.”
For the past five years, the school has been fighting to get a foot in the door of the program.
Principal Barbara Rose said it was fantastic news. The school could now go ahead with a master plan for a major overhaul.
“We can now start planning and working towards what the school community has wanted for a long time,” she said.
Ms Rose said the school needed all new classrooms as the present ones were too small.
“We need facilities that allow us to teach our exciting hands-on curriculum approach,” she said.
“We are looking forward to having more appropriate learning spaces.”
