TAI Chi is essentially an internal martial art, according to experienced practitioner and Tai Chi teacher Maxine Gardner.
“These days we focus more on the health benefits which Tai Chi offers,” she said.
“A practitioner of Tai Chi can expect to increase their flexibility by developing tendon strength, boosting energy levels, losing weight, balancing hormones, combating illnesses of the mind and body, build the skill to maintain health, build confidence, develop patience and self-control and increase will-power.
“There has also been significant success with arthritis, insomnia and high blood pressure.
“However, you do not need to be ill to practise this beautiful self-healing art.
“Tai Chi benefits the whole person.”
Maxine also practises and teaches Qigong.
“Both are excellent for the health of body and mind,” she said.
“You can do either one, or both.”
Maxine said that this Tai Chi class had been taught by Syd Lewis for the past 15 years.
“Syd recently moved out of the area and has handed the reins over to me,” she said.
“I have been teaching Tai Chi and Qigong for the past eight years in Berwick, Beaconsfield, Upwey and Emerald.”
