IN DECEMBER, the Kallista Mechanics Institute Hall will be 100 years old.
Built in 1913 by volunteers, including the Gleghorns, Roberts, A’Vards, Hartneys and Embersons – the hall still stands today offering the community of Kallista a piece of history.
To celebrate the occasion, a committee has been formed and will prepare an opening day re-enactment on Saturday 21 December.
Committee member John Lloyd said plans were in place to have a pipe band, an opening re-enactment, an historic photographic display and afternoon tea.
He said the day would also include the unveiling of a new Mechanic’s Institute plaque.
“The committee is endeavouring to replicate the original opening in 1913,” Mr Lloyd said.
“Information on the hall’s history is being compiled, with the intention of publishing a book next year, if funding can be procured.”
The committee is looking for members of the community to get involved.
