Highway crash appeal

The crash scene.

A station wagon collided with a tree and light pole on a Burwood Highway centre median after its driver lost control, police said.

Officers are appealing for witnesses, CCTV and dash cam footage following the single-car crash in Upper Ferntree Gully about 9.40pm on Friday 24 May.

They said the driver was behind the wheel of a silver Holden station wagon travelling east.

Following the crash, the vehicle came to rest in the west-bound lanes near the intersection with Dawson Street.

Police said the vehicle suffered extensive damage and the driver was taken to hospital with injuries.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman confirmed paramedics treated a man aged in his twenties at the scene for minor injuries.

They took him to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said debris was spread for several hundred metres across east and west-bound lanes.

The road was closed for several hours while police examined the scene.

No one else was injured.

Police are seeking any witnesses who might have dash cam footage or who saw the silver Holden travelling in the area prior to the crash.
