Cash for schools

Monbulk MP James Merlino visited Monbulk High School on Friday.

Yarra Ranges Special Developmental School will receive $3.45 million in the next State Budget.

Education Minister James Merlino visited the Mount Evelyn school on Friday 31 May to announce the cash for new, architecturally-designed learning spaces part of the 2019-’20 budget released on Monday 27 May.

This followed a previous $500,000 investment for a new administration building, to be completed in October.

The new works will happen alongside this construction.

The same day, Mr Merlino visited Monbulk College to officially open the school’s $3 million administration and resource building.

The new two-storey building includes an entry foyer and reception counter, administration offices, sick bay, toilets and plant area on the lower ground floor.

The first floor features the new library and toilets, as well as support, learning, and breakout spaces for students.

The budget also included additional funding for planning and early work ahead of the final major stage of the school.

The State Government is to complete the $7.6 million second stage of the building works at Monbulk College in September.

This includes the demolition of a building, refurbishment of the admin building, and construction of new classrooms and specialist spaces for information and communication technology.
