A focused group of passionate and determined residents, businesses and organisations has come together under the banner of the Sassafras Village Group (SVG).

With the full support and involvement of Yarra Ranges Council, the group hopes to bring planning, funding and eventually co-ordinated action to the village.

Broadly, the objective is to improve the aesthetic beauty, safety and utility of public spaces while celebrating cultural, natural, artistic and historical assets.

“We believe Sassafras has so much to offer, not only for the day trippers and tourists, but for the locals too,” group member Emma Jennings said.

“We want to design the outdoor spaces to enhance the shops, cafes and galleries, with improved facilities, beautiful landscaping, public art and community projects, for people of all ages and abilities.”

This is a long-term project rolled out in stages and the SVG are inviting all interested persons to nominate their priorities and contribute by raising other items of concern in an online survey.

The input from resident will provide direction for the group and help shape the likelihood of receiving support and funding for improvements.

The online survey will conclude on Friday 9 August and can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R2DCRYZ
