Hoons be gone

An ongoing effort to stamp out hoon driving in parts of the Yarra Valley is starting to produce results, according to local police.

Highway Patrol and local and specialist units are reportedly having an impact, with numerous cars receiving a roadworthy and about $5000 in fines issued in Warburton and Yarra Junction recently.

Police said information provided by locals had greatly assisted efforts.

Right direction for Operation Compass

A Victoria Police campaign that looks to reduce road trauma and provide a highly visible police presence on roads is having an impact locally.

A 47-year-old man returned a positive test for alcohol as part of Operation Compass efforts in Montrose.

Police said the man returned the positive result at a Preliminary Breath Testing (PBT) site about 5.30pm on 15 November.

The man allegedly accompanied police for the purpose of an Evidentiary Breath Test (EBT) and later returned an EBT reading of 0.059.

He was issued with a $496 penalty notice and his licence will be suspended for three months.

A 63-year-old woman was also charged with drink driving in Lilydale on 11 November.

Police said the woman entered the testing site on Main Street Lilydale about 10.15pm.

The woman allegedly underwent a PBT and returned a positive reading before the result of the EBT was .293.

Police said the woman was charged and her car has been impounded.

Cloverlea burglaries

Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit have recovered numerous property items that they believe have been stolen from the Cloverlea Estate area in Chirnside Park.

Police said items have been stolen from vehicles, door steps of residential houses and tools or building materials stolen from houses under construction.

Recovered property items are available for viewing at the Lilydale Police Station.
