Monbulk 1 continued their winning season in Saturday pennant when they defeated last season’s Grand Finalists by 11 shots at home.

Jim Bras’ rink had a close contest early with scores level after 6 ends. They then won 5 of the next 6 ends to lead by 7 shots after 12 ends.

However, their opponents picked up a couple of multiples and levelled the scores going into the last end.

A toucher by lead Terry Wright gave the home side victory by one shot, 22 to 21. Brian Smith’s rink was all tied up at the half way mark.

They then won 8 of the next 10 ends with some excellent bowling from the skip and third – Karen Rice to win by 6 shots, 19 to 13.

Eric Markham’s rink started well and led by 6 shots after 6 ends. The opposition then took control picking up a number of multiples to win by 13 shots, 13 to 26.

Tim Stapleton’s rink took control from the start picking up 4 shots on the first end. They then dominated the game with new life member playing brilliantly as a third to win by 17 shots, 30 to 13.

Monbulk won the overall 84 shots to 73 and maintained top position on the ladder.

Monbulk 2 travelled to Mulgrave Country Club and came away with the points in an excellent effort on grass.

Graeme Goller’s rink controlled the game all day winning 14 ends with a margin of 11 shots, 21 to 10.

Eric Furby’s rink started well and led by 7 shots after 4 ends. By the sixteenth end they had increased this lead to 12 shots.

However, they dropped 3 multiples in the last six ends to scrape over the line by one shot, 25 to 24.

Peter Donder’s rink struggled early and did not register a score until the eighth end. They battled away and moved to within one shot with 3 ends to play.

However, they lost the last 3 ends to lose by 6 shots, 16 to 22.

Jim Anderson’s rink led by one shot after 5 ends, but then won 8 of the next 9 ends to push the lead out to 17 shots.

They continued to bowl well winning by 18 shots, 31 to 13. Monbulk won the overall by 24 shots, 93 to 69 and are in third position on the ladder.

Monbulk 3 played Cockatoo at home and found the visitors a tough opponent.

Klaus Eisele’s rink were able to match it early being only one shot down at the half way mark. They lost 6 of the last 7 ends to lose by 16 shots, 7 to 23.

Alan Brooke’s rink led by 10 shots after 5 ends. They then lost 6 of the next 7 ends to lead by just one shot.

They regathered over the last 3 ends to win by three shots 15 to 12.

Monbulk lost the overall by 13 shots, 22 to 35 and are in fourth position on the ladder.
