Finals time arrived on Tuesday with Monbulk 1 who finished on top of the ladder after the home and away season taking on Yarra Glen who were fourth playing in a knockout game at Monbulk.

Monbulk started well on all rinks and had an imposing lead, but faltered late to set up a close finish. Jim Bras’ rink took control early and led by 10 shots after 2 ends. Their opponents then won 5 of the next 7 ends to cut the margin to 5 shots. The Monbulk rink then grabbed the ascendancy again winning 8 of the last 12 ends including three multiples to win by 17 shots, 13 to 30.

Jenny Holmes’ rink was on top early and led by 4 shots after 8 ends. They then dropped 10 shots in the next four ends to trail by 6 shots. The Monbulk rink picked up 5 shots on the thirteenth end and when they won the next end scores were level. However, they did not win another end dropping 16 shots over the last 7 ends to lose by 16 shots, 14 to 30.

Eric Markham’s rink had a close battle early and scores were level after seven ends. The Monbulk rink then took control winning the next 4 ends to lead by 10 shots. They had maintained this lead by the end of the fourteenth end, but then lost 4 of the next 5 ends and scores were tied on the rink. Monbulk had an overall lead of 1 shot with two ends to play and were not able to hold on eventually losing the rink by 3 shots, 20 to 23 and going down on the overall by two shots, 64 to 66.

This meant that Monbulk’s season was over and Yarra Glen had progressed to the sectional final.
