Clinic for hoopsters

CHILDREN with a mobility restriction will descend on Knox Converse Basketball Stadium for a day of games and activities.
Children aged between six and 16 are invited to take part in a free wheelchair basketball clinic to be held on Friday.
Fully supervised by qualified coaches, the program will provide a great opportunity for children to be introduced to the sport of basketball in a fun and active environment.
Wheelchair basketball is suitable for anyone who can self propel a manual wheelchair. This includes those with spina bifida, lower limb amputation, cerebral palsy and a spinal cord injury; however, a range of other physical disabilities can also be catered for.
At the conclusion of the introduction wheelchair basketball clinic, children will be invited to join in the fun and games of Aussie Hoops Oz Ball.
Run by Knox Basketball Association, the 10-week development program commences on Friday, 6 October at the Knox Converse Basketball Stadium.
Aussie Hoops Oz Ball embraces the concept of modified sport, where participants can develop their skills and enjoy themselves without the pressures of full-scale competition. Every child registered in the 10-week program will receive a basketball, t-shirt, drink bottle and a poster.
“Basketball Victoria are delighted to present this program in conjunction with Wheelchair Sports Victoria and Knox Basketball Association,” Basketball Victoria CEO Wayne Bird said.
The wheelchair basketball clinic will take place from 10am to 2pm on Friday, 22 September at Knox Basketball Stadium, Park Crescent, Boronia.
Budding players can register by contacting Simon Gray at Wheelchair Sports Victoria on 9473 0133.
