Fundraising for art’s sake

By Ed Merrison
KALLISTA Primary School is turning fundraising into an art form.
The school holds its third annual Local Artists Exhibition this week, with a special gala opening on Friday, 3 November, at 7.30pm.
The show continues on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm at the General Purpose Room (Fire Refuge), 72 Monbulk Road, Kallista.
St Kilda football star Robert Harvey will make a guest appearance on the opening night, which includes supper and wine-tasting for a $10 entry fee.
School fundraising officer Carol Gunning said the show would have all kinds of work by local artists on show and for sale.
“We’ve got oils, watercolours and pastels plus photography, mosaics, ceramics and felt works,” she said.
Money raised will go to the primary school, the pupils of which will also show their work, though not for sale.
“The kids love having their work on display and having their parents come along and see it,” Ms Gunning said.
The show will also be an opportunity to do a bit of Christmas shopping for a worthy cause.
“It’s all about supporting and promoting our local artists and raising funds for the school,” Ms Gunning said.
“Christmas is coming up and paintings, pottery and ceramics make wonderful presents.”
Artists wishing to show their work can still do so by calling Ms Gunning on 9755 2633.
