Nursery bid for Chelsea tree in a row

– Tania Martin
MONBULK’S Fleming’s Nursery will attempt a gold medal hat trick at the 2007 Chelsea Flower Show.
The garden will be designed by Mark Browning and will be built by award winning Kiama Landscapes and Paving.
Wes Fleming nursery director said he can’t wait to return to Chelsea next year.
He is aiming for a gold medal hat trick after winning gold in 2005 and 2006.
Mr Fleming said he loves going to Chelsea and showcasing the extraordinary talent of Australian landscape designers.
He said next year’s garden is nothing like Fleming’s has created before and will bring his two great passions together – trees and the environment.
The main garden area will feature a raised platform of Victorian bluestone with built-in seating and a table, which will create an open yet secluded space surrounded by water.
A large fish tank embedded in a feature wall will promote tranquillity and a steel triangular pergola will tie all the elements of the garden together.
Trees will be a big feature of next year’s garden with 39 over six metres tall, including a grove of Himalayan White Barked Birches and Purple Beech.
Mr Fleming said the garden will show people they can use trees to create an intimate space.
“The garden has great design principles, strong architectural themes and is heavily planted,” he said. “The English will love it.”
The flower show will be held between Tuesday, 22 and Saturday 26 May 2007, in the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, London.
