Mac attack arrests

By Paul Pickering
POLICE say two men arrested after an armed robbery at Ferntree Gully McDonald’s last week were responsible for a string of raids across the region.
The pair are believed to be responsible for holding up four McDonald’s restaurants, two service stations and a bottle shop from Keysborough to Mulgrave between mid November and the end of December.
The arrest was the culmination of Operation Kumiss, a joint venture between the Frankston-Glen Waverley and Moorabbin-Embona police task forces.
In the latest incident, police say two men, one armed with a baseball bat and the other with a knife, broke in as staff prepared to close the Burwood Highway store at midnight on 3 January.
Police allege the raiders smashed a window pane in one of the doors and crawled through.
It is claimed one man demanded cash while the other corralled the remaining customers.
The raiders fled on foot.
Springvale Police apprehended one man at 3am the next day.
Search warrants were later executed at two addresses.
* An 18-year-old Narre Warren South man and a 19-year-old Springvale man have been charged with seven counts of armed robbery.
They have been remanded in custody and will face Springvale Magistrates’ Court this week.
