Hot Shots served up for youngsters

UPWEY tennis hopefuls can now learn to play like Lleyton Hewitt as a new training program is served up.
Grant Kendall’s Tennis Coaching has teamed up with Tennis Australia to bring the Hot Shots program to Upwey and Woori Yallock Tennis Clubs.
The program, which was launched by two-time US Open champion Pat Rafter during the Australian Open, is a junior development initiative.
It is aimed at 5- to 12-year-olds, who are either participating in or want to start playing tennis.
Rafter said he is excited about introducing a new generation of children to tennis through the Hot Shots program.
“As a parent it is important to me to see my kids being active and playing sports they really enjoy.
“Tennis Hot Shots introduces young kids to tennis in a fun way, and the more kids we have playing tennis and enjoying it, the more we can grow the sport.
Grant Kendall said he was thrilled to be able to bring the Hot Shots program to up-and-coming Upwey and Woori Yallock tennis players.
He said the program is designed to get more kids active through tennis.
All new players who enrol for lessons through Grant Kendall’s Tennis Coaching will automatically be registered for the program and receive a Hot Shots pack.
The pack includes a hat, radio, shoe bag, tennis balls, water bottle, tote bag and an activity book.
Kendall runs classes five nights a week at Upwey Tennis Club and anyone interested in registering for lessons or the Hot Shots program should call 0414 584 610.
