PLAYING at home against a strong Glen Waverley side last Saturday, the Upwey-Tecoma division four bowls side had all four rinks showing a deficit on the scoreboard at the half time break.
After a very inspiring talk at the side “huddle” prior to resuming play, all players lifted their game and produced possibly the best second half of bowling this season.
Robin Southern followed on from his club championship win to time and again play great skippers bowls to keep his team in the game and finished the day with a one shot win.
Tom Perry and his men were down by 12 shots, but they also rallied to claw their way to an acceptable draw. Andrew Walters and his team members engaged in a fluctuating scoreline game but finished on strongly to come up with a five shots win.
The best performance of the day was that of the Trevor Robertson skipped rink, which blitzed the opponents in the second half for the rink of the week, winning score of 14 shots up.
The division six Upwey-Tecoma side were engaged in a tight battle with their Narre Warren opponents to go down by a meagre three shots overall.
The consistent rink of Simon Gringhuis came up with another healthy scoreline to be the only winners on the day, which was not quite enough to give the side a win. Paul Hutchison and Janine Groves continue to impress in this side, whilst the three ‘super veterans’ Jim Miller, Bob Griffiths and Don Andrews just “keep on keeping on” and are an inspiration to the rest of the side.
