Father attends child’s funeral

A FERNTREE Gully man charged with the murder of his three-month-old daughter was bailed to attend her funeral last week.
Harold Adrian Taylor, 38, is charged with killing baby Camilla at their home on the morning of 4 February.
The child died at the Royal Children’s Hospital after being airlifted from the William Angliss Hospital where Mr Taylor’s wife, Betsy, works as a paediatric nurse.
Camilla died from swelling to the brain, after suffering three fractures to her skull.
Appearing before the Supreme Court last Tuesday, Mr Taylor said that he woke to change the baby’s nappy at around 1.30am to find that she had stopped breathing.
The court heard that there were at least three other people that had been caring for Camilla during the previous day.
These included two international students staying at the Taylor family home.
While the court heard that the baby’s skull fractures were consistent with non-accidental death, senior detective Nigel L’estrange said that pathologists could not rule out the possibility that the death was an accident.
Justice Bernard Bonjiorno said that the case was not strong, and the investigation was continuing.
Mr Taylor was released on bail of $100,000 surety, allowing him to attend Camilla’s funeral late last week.
Mr Taylor, who will appear in court again in May, was ordered to report to police once a week.
