RESIDENTS will soon be able to take a ‘spooky tour’ through Ferntree Gully Cemetery to discover its history.
The event is one of many that Knox City Council has organised for its upcoming Heritage Week, running from 20 to 30 October.
Knox mayor Jenny Moore said Heritage Week was entering its fifth year, and had expanded to celebrate more than just history.
“Heritage Week has really extended from celebrating our heritage to celebrating people and events.
“It has progressed from something at Millers Homestead to something more encompassing.”
A special guest speaker at the 20 October launch will be historian, author and professor, Geoffrey Blainey, who will discuss early settlement days as described in his book Black Kettle and Full Moon.
Heritage Week will also include the launch of Knox City Council’s Sporting Heroes Exhibition, established to commemorate Knox’s biggest contributors to community sport in the lead up to next year’s Commonwealth Games. In total there are over 20 events planned for Heritage Week.
