Set for fun run

By Tania Martin
THOMAS the Tank Engine is building up a head of steam to challenge local children in an annual fun run.
The Fun Run with Thomas, now in its sixth year, will see the locomotive race against more than 600 children on Sunday 7 October at Gembrook Station.
The race is open to all children up to the age of 12 who can take up the challenge to race Thomas or even test their endurance against Puffing Billy.
Children up to eight years old will run against Thomas over various short distances from 150 to 850 metres, while those between nine and 12 can take up the challenge to race Puffing Billy over 1650 metres.
Race organiser Ken Miller said the race promises to be bigger and better than ever with a crowd of more than 3000 expected.
Mr Miller said organisers hope to raise more than $58,000, which would be donated towards the Monash Medical Centre Children’s ward for the purchase of specialised medical equipment.
The fun run also promises to be a great family day out with clowns, music, and food stalls and amusement rides on offer.
A magic show, climbing wall and karaoke will also provide many hours of fun and entertainment.
Mr Miller said a Thomas hunt, where photographs and miniature models of the locomotive will be hidden in the parkland areas behind the station for the children to find, will also keep children entertained.
He said children would then hand over the treasures they have found and receive a stamp and some lollies.
This day packed full of fun and excitement will start at 10am with the first of six races at Gembrook Station.
Children can now register for the race at www.kidsfunrunwiththomas.com or by calling 5968 3996 for more information.
