A NEW skate park is on the cards for Emerald’s Worrell Reserve, despite one being filled in more than 15 years ago due to a spate of crime.
The new skate park may be constructed as part of a proposal included in the draft Emerald community facilities spatial plan, which is now out for public comment.
The plan outlines that the skate facility may be located between the football oval and the roundabout at the entrance to Worrell Reserve.
While there are no promises the skate park will be built, issues associated with the former skate park have been raised by concerned residents.
Cardinia Shire Council’s Mark Stahel said that a small skate bowl at the back of the oval was closed about 15 years ago.
“The council removed the bowl following complaints from residents and a request from Victoria police,” Mr Stahel said.
“At the time, the skate bowl was in an unsafe location at the reserve with poor visibility and as a result, attracted antisocial behaviour.
“It also lacked proper lighting and had insufficient emergency access.”
